The LSO Dirty Street Funk and Hot Street Jazz The Lowdown Street Orchestra are Melbourne’s only funky marchin’ band playing 100% portable funky jazz-like grooves. A group of jazz musicians heard the sounds and moves of New Orleans Brass Bands like the Dirty Dozen and ReBirth, the amazing Italian marching band Funk Off, the brilliant Wisconsans of the Youngblood Brass Band and decided it was high time Melbourne heard the same vibes and street party grooves. We’ve played Jazz festivals, parades, street festivals, charity shindigs, bike rides, protest rallies and occasionally just in a park because we could. We also have an “alternative” lineup featuring Dave on Kit and Frank on Guitar to rock out the pub scene. Playing tunes from the bands above, plus Funk classics from Dr John, James Brown, Maceo and guys whose names we can’t remember or spell, the 8-piece lineup is currently… Trumpets:
